2023/2/17
On Friday 17 February, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime attended a conference entitled “Reforming capitalism, going digital and going green: Does Japan hold the answers?” organised by the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies at the University of Oxford, where he delivered a speech as guest of honour. After referring to the importance of the Japan-UK partnership, which has become steadily deeper in a wide variety of areas including security and the economy, he addressed the need for harmony and coexistence with nature in order to tackle such socio-economic issues as digital and green transformation (DX and GX).
The gathering explored various challenges facing Japan's society and economy, in particular the 'new form of capitalism' promoted by the Kishida administration, DX, GX, innovation, startups, corporate governance, gender issues and education.
At a reception at Saïd Business School and a high table dinner at St Antony's College afterwards, Ambassador Hayashi discussed Japan’s economy and business, Anglo-Japanese cooperation and the international situation with participants of the conference as well as professors and fellows of the University of Oxford.
