On Friday 24 March 2023, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime bestowed upon Sir Michael Arthur the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star at a ceremony held at the Ambassador's residence.
As President and Provost of University College London, Sir Michael led the organisation of the "Japan-UK Universities Conference for Collaboration in Research and Education", which brought together Presidents and Chancellors of 30 Japan and UK universities and helped to build cooperation towards recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake with a wide range of Japanese organisations including industry and local authorities.
