Ambassador Hayashi's attendance at the launch of Ocean Census

On 27 April 2023, Ambassador Hayashi attended the launch of Ocean Census at the Royal Institution, an event hosted by The Nippon Foundation and Nekton Foundation, celebrating the launch of a new project to discover more about what lives in the oceans.
The Ocean Census project aims at discovering new species of marine animals and organisms through field surveys in various sea areas throughout the world. At the event, Ambassador Hayashi addressed the attendees following remarks by Dr SASAKAWA Yohei, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, and Mr Rupert Grey, Chair of Nekton Foundation.
In his remarks, Ambassador Hayashi underlined that Japan and the UK had strengthened their friendship throughout numerous collaborative projects across a variety of fields including academia, art, culture and education, and expressed his appreciation to Dr Sasakawa and The Nippon Foundation for their continuous commitment to social innovation through the support of many projects. He also expressed his hope that the collaborative project Ocean Census, which aims to shed new light on the world of marine ecosystems, would be a landmark initiative by Japan and the UK, two maritime nations, contributing to a sustainable future for the world’s oceans.
