On Thursday 11 May, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime visited Imperial College London.

He was first given a tour of the MHIET-Imperial Future Boosting Innovation Centre, where he was briefed on achievements of industry-university cooperation between Japan and the UK for developing cleaner engines. He then visited the Hitachi-Imperial Digital Energy Demonstrator and observed activities related to the ongoing research on decarbonisation with regard to power-grid control towards optimising power supply to towns, or the country as a whole.

After learning about these two cases of research collaboration between Japan and the UK, Ambassador Hayashi had a meeting with Professor Hugh Brady, Imperial College President, and Professor Maggie Dallman, Vice President. They exchanged views on further strengthening research exchange between Japan and the UK, and discussed Japan-UK relations as well as international affairs.

Lastly, Ambassador Hayashi conversed with Japanese students studying at the university. He enjoyed listening to their stories about the courses they were taking and their lives at ICL, and offered them his encouragement for the future.
