On 7 July, the Embassy of Japan in the UK, together with the Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR London), hosted a pre-departure reception for the 2023 JET Programme participants at SOAS, University of London.

This summer, some 220 JET participants will depart for Japan, where they will work as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) in schools or as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) in local governments throughout the country.

Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime gave a speech in which he offered his encouragement to the gathering of eager young people who were about to leave for Japan and urged each of them to engage deeply with Japan’s society, culture and people, and to act as a British ‘ambassador’ in their local community while there.
The JET Programme

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, is aimed at promoting internationalisation in Japan’s local communities by improving foreign language education and fostering international exchange at the community level.
