Japan Self-Defense Forces Day Reception

On 18 July, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime hosted the Japan Self-Defense Forces Day Reception commemorating the 69th anniversary of the founding of the Japan Self-Defense Forces at the Embassy of Japan in the UK.
Around 200 participants joined the reception, including UK Ministry of Defence officials, British Armed Forces personnel, British MPs and Government officials, members of defence industries operating in the UK, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of the diplomatic corps and Defence Attachés.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Hayashi underlined the importance of the Japan-UK global strategic partnership at a time when the security and prosperity of Europe and the Indo-Pacific are more and more inseparable. He mentioned the ever-deepening relationship through frequent exchanges that occurs at various levels, which is particularly thriving this year, from administrative to leadership level. Ambassador Hayashi also noted the signing of the Hiroshima Accord in May this year opened a new chapter in the relationship. He highlighted the importance of fostering deeper Japan-UK cooperation in security and defence, including strengthening the cooperation between the JSDF and British Armed Forces, through the steady implementation of the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) and the Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA).
