On 6 September, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime attended the reception commemorating the signing of the MOC between the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) in the field of High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor Technologies.
Under this MOC, which was signed today, JAEA and NNL will collaborate on the development of the basic design and fuel fabrication technology for the UK HTGR demonstration, funded by the British Government’s Advanced Modular Reactor Programme.
In his remarks, Ambassador Hayashi noted that today's signing of the MOC, in the presence of Mr Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Ms Claire Coutino, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, demonstrates the importance of this cooperation, which will play a crucial role in efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. He also looked forward to the further development of this cooperation in the future.
