Ambassador Hayashi’s attendance at SMBC Client Reception

On 20 November, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime attended a reception held at Mansion House to mark the appointment of a new President at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC).
In his speech, Ambassador Hayashi congratulated Mr Akihiro Fukutome on his appointment as President and CEO of SMBC in April this year, and conveyed his respect to Mr Makoto Takashima, the former President and CEO and the current Chairperson of the Board, for his hard work over the past six years. He also voiced the hope that SMBC would continue to put the customer first and encourage sustainable business activities and the growth of Japanese companies operating overseas, as the business environment is likely to reflect growing risks surrounding the social economy due to global challenges such as high inflation, geopolitical risks and climate change.
