On 6 April, Ambassador and Madame Hayashi attended a Sakura cherry tree planting ceremony held at Dorneywood, the official residence of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The ceremony was attended by the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and his family members, as well as Mr Sandy Sano, Chairman of the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, Lady Victoria Borwick, Deputy Chariman of the project, and the residence’s managers and gardeners.
Ambassador Hayashi expressed his gratitude for the efforts of all involved and remarked that it was a great privilege to witness the planting of the trees, symbols of the amicable bonds between Japan and the UK, in the official residence which has been used by UK government executives including the Chancellor of the Exchequer. He said he was confident the trees would continue to flourish for many years to come.
At the luncheon afterwards, Ambassador Hayashi exchanged views on relations between Japan and the UK with the Chancellor.
