On 25 April, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime attended the World Expo 2025 Programme, an event organised by the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce to mark one year until the opening of 2025 Expo, Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

The event was attended by about 30 representatives of local businesses in the Thames Valley, including Japanese companies, and was designed to build momentum for 2025 Expo and to further promote business and investment between Japan and UK.

In his remarks, Ambassador Hayashi referred to the history of the World Expo held in the UK in 1851, where products that would form the basis of modern democracy and telecommunications were exhibited, and introduced Osaka as a "Testing Ground for Future Society" under the theme of "Designing Future Society for our Lives". He also mentioned that since the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for business cooperation between the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry was signed in 2014, business exchanges between the two regions have continued to develop. He also expressed his hope that the 2025 Expo would be an opportunity to further strengthen relations between the regions of Japan and UK.
