On 10 September, Ambassador Hayashi attended a ceremony for the announcement of the winners of the Praemium Imperiale 2024.
The Praemium Imperiale was established by the Japan Art Association to honour outstanding international achievements by artists in the fields of painting, sculpture, architecture, music and theatre/film. Together with prominent artists from all over the world, this year a Japanese architect, Mr Ban Shigeru also received the prize.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Hayashi expressed his sincere congratulations to all award recipients and praised the significance of this award for artists working worldwide. He also emphasised that the State Visit by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress in June was a source of great encouragement for those involved in cultural and artistic exchange between Japan and the UK, providing a strong foundation for bolstering the partnership still further.
