Farewell Greeting by Ambassador Hayashi to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham

On 9 October, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime met with Mr Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, who was visiting London, and paid a farewell greeting to him.
Ambassador Hayashi expressed his gratitude for Mayor Burnham’s strong leadership and his tireless efforts in fostering intercity exchanges with Japan. He also noted a widening range of friendship between Greater Manchester and Japan, in particular Osaka, and expressed his hopes for the further development of this friendship in the future, such as through a visit by Greater Manchester to the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 next June.
In response, Mayor Burnham conveyed his deep appreciation for Ambassador Hayashi's contributions to the development of the Japan-UK partnership. Also, referring to the success of his visit with the Greater Manchester delegation to Osaka and Tokyo last December, he stated that intercity exchanges with Japan were essential for the future development of Manchester, and that he hoped to further deepen relations with Osaka and other cities across Japan.
