Farewell Greeting by Ambassador Hayashi to Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak

On 9 October, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime met with The Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and paid a farewell greeting to him.

At the outset, Mr Sunak conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for Ambassador Hayashi's significant contribution towards ever-closer partnership between Japan and the United Kingdom. He emphasised that the United Kingdom is Japan's closest partner in Europe and expressed his hope that bilateral partnership will be sustained and strengthened in the future based on the Hiroshima Accord, which he and former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced together.

Ambassador Hayashi noted that, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the partnership between Japan and the United Kingdom had become closer than ever before, and he paid tribute to the achievements of both leaders. He also pointed out steady progress had been achieved for the follow-up of the Hiroshima Accord.

Reflecting on the progress made in strengthening bilateral ties to date, they expressed confidence that the Japan-UK partnership would continue to grow stronger in the future.
