On 15 October, Ambassador HAYASHI Hajime attended a reception in London to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank’s London Branch and the 100th anniversary of the founding of SuMi TRUST Group.

In his remarks, Ambassador Hayashi paid tribute to SuMi TRUST's efforts to meet the needs of its clients and build a relationship of trust with them since it started its operation in the UK in 1974. He also noted that the state visit of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress to the UK in June this year was a symbol of the strong ties between Japan and the UK, and that such a strong partnership between the two countries would give impetus to the efforts of the Government of Japan to shift ‘from savings to investment’ through stable asset formation by its citizens. He highlighted Prime Minister Ishiba's declaration that the new administration would build upon the previous Kishida Administration’s efforts to promote Japan as a leading asset management centre and that one of the major pillars of its economic policy would be making Japan a major destination for investment from both domestic and overseas sources, including investment in the regions. Against this backdrop, he voiced the hope that more UK asset managers would expand their activities into Japan.

He concluded his speech by expressing his sincere gratitude to all those who have offered their help, support and encouragement during his tenure in the United Kingdom.
