Ambassador Suzuki’s attendance at a talk event by contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami at the V&A

On 8 December, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki attended a talk event by renowned contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, held at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London. This event, co-hosted by the V&A and “Japan Cultural Expo 2.0”, was held in London, a hub for art enthusiasts from around the world.

The Japan Cultural Expo was launched alongside the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games to showcase Japanese culture and arts to both domestic and international audiences, with the aim to preserve and pass them on to future generations.

During the event, Mr Murakami shared his experiences of studying Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) before focusing more on contemporary art. He discussed the artistic value of Japanese manga and anime and illustrated his vibrant activities full of his creativity, which incorporate traditional techniques of Japanese art into contemporary art.
