On 12 February, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki attended a launch event for “Scotland at EXPO 2025”.

In his opening remarks, Mr Richard Lochhead, Minister of State for Business, introduced the three Scottish business missions that will visit Expo 2025, Osaka, Kansai. The three missions will represent the creative, health tech and renewable energy industries respectively and host events at the UK Pavilion. He also expressed the hope that these events would be an opportunity for Japanese companies to increase their investment in Scotland.

Ambassador Suzuki then emphasised the good relationship between Japan and Scotland, noting that Scotch whisky and Scottish salmon remain popular in Japan and that Japanese companies are making significant inroads in the Scottish renewable energy sector. He went on to state that this year’s Expo would be an opportunity to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
