On 12 March, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki hosted the Japan-UK Financial Networking Reception at the Embassy. This was the third time for such a gathering to take place. The aim of the event was to encourage exchange between a wide range of financial professionals in the public and private sectors, against the backdrop of growing momentum for further cooperation between Japan and the UK in the financial sector.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Suzuki introduced examples of Japan-UK relations in the financial sector, expressed his appreciation for the delegation from the City of London to visit Japan for the Expo in Osaka, and expressed his hope that the visit would lead to increased trade and investment between Japan and the UK in both directions.

Alderman Alastair King, Lord Mayor of the City of London, said he was looking forward to visiting Tokyo and Osaka in July to participate in the Expo in Osaka, and introduced the ‘City Belonging Networks’, an initiative to activate various communities including the Japanese active in the City under his theme ‘Growth Unleashed’.

Around 160 people took part in the reception, with guests including officials from the British Government, Bank of England and the City of London as well as representatives of financial institutions, professional service providers and industry groups operating in the UK.
