Foreign Minister’s Commendation – Professor Barry Rider

On 31 March 2025, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki presented the Foreign Minister’s Commendation to Professor Barry Rider.
Professor Rider, as a professor at Jesus College, Cambridge University, has dedicated his career to advancing the study of criminal law, and has supported and mentored numerous Japanese students, including judges and prosecutors. In addition, every year he has hosted the Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime with high-level participation from all over the world, including Justice Ministers. Through such activities, Professor Rider has contributed to promoting academic exchanges and enhancing the friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and the UK.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Suzuki expressed his respect and appreciation for Professor Rider’s contribution to promoting academic exchanges and enhancing the friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and the UK. In response, Professor Rider expressed his pleasure and gratitude to the development of the Japan-UK relationship and reflected upon his connection with Japan.
