On 6 May, Ambassador Suzuki visited Rhodes House at the University of Oxford to attend the Kyoto Prize at Oxford event. The Kyoto Prize was established by the Inamori Foundation in 1985 and, since 2017, the Kyoto Prize Laureates have been invited to attend a series of lectures and panel discussions at the University of Oxford.
This year, the 2024 prize winners Dr John Pendry (Prize in Advanced Technology), Dr Paul F. Hoffman (Prize in Basic Sciences), and Mr William Forsythe (Prize in Arts and Philosophy) all took part in a panel discussion, followed by a dinner attended by around 120 people from the Inamori Foundation and the University of Oxford, including the Chancellor Lord Hague.
In his remarks, Ambassador Suzuki expressed his gratitude to the University of Oxford for its long-term hosting of the Kyoto Prize at Oxford event. He also voiced his hope that the collaborative relationship between the University of Oxford and the Japanese academic community will continue to flourish.
