On 18 September, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki bestowed The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, upon Lord Andrew David Lansley at a ceremony held at the Ambassador's residence.

Since assuming the role of the UK Co-Chair of the Japan-UK 21st Century Group in 2016, Lord Lansley has, for nine years, led the Group in its capacity to make recommendations that deepen mutual understanding between Japan and the UK and strengthen the long-term cooperative relationship between the two nations. He has energetically pursued these activities.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Suzuki, acknowledging Lord Lansley's achievements, expressed his respect and gratitude to Lord Lansley for his significant contributions to advancing UK-Japan relations, including strengthening bilateral cooperation in economic relations and the health sector.

Lord Lansley reflected on his activities as UK Chair of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group and expressed his gratitude to those around him.

The Japan-UK 21st Century Group is a forum of eminent persons established in 1985 based on an agreement between then Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone and then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to examine the nature of cooperation between Japan and the UK. Joint meetings, attended by high-level representatives from both Japan and the UK across politics, business, academia and other fields, are held annually, alternating between Japan and the UK.
