On 21 September, the 15th Japan Matsuri was held at London’s Trafalgar Square, with more than 35,000 visitors throughout the day.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki expressed his gratitude to the visitors and organisers. Among the distinguished guests, Seema Malhotra, Minister for the Indo Pacific and Minister for Equalities at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, remarked that the friendship between Japan and the UK had become stronger than ever, thanks to their citizens’ deep curiosity in each other's culture and respect for each other’s values, and expressed her delight at the growing number of people travelling between the two countries.
The main stage featured a wide range of performances, from traditional Japanese culture such as taiko drumming and martial arts to pop culture, including anime songs and cosplay. More than 60 stalls were set up inside the square, offering everything from Japanese street food and kimonos to tourism information from various regions of Japan. The lively atmosphere continued throughout the day, making the event a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture.
