On 26 September, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki visited the North East, attending a gala dinner commemorating the 200th anniversary of British railways held at Hitachi Rail's Newton Aycliffe factory. He also visited the Railway Museum and exchanged views with local railway stakeholders.

Ambassador Suzuki visited the Railway Museum in Darlington, the birthplace of the railways, where he learned about the history of locomotive development since the opening of the railway and saw a steam locomotive in operation.

Ambassador Suzuki attended the gala dinner commemorating the 200th anniversary of British railways hosted by Hitachi Rail, where he exchanged views with Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander MP, Minister for Rail Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill CBE, Mayor of the North East Ms Kim McGuinness and other distinguished guests on a wide range of topics, such as further strengthening and promoting economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, including railway cooperation between Japan and the UK.
