2025/10/7

On 7 October, an event celebrating 200 years of the railways was held at Drapers’ Hall in London. The event consisted of a seminar attended by alumni of exchange training programmes between railway operators of both countries over the past several decades, followed by a reception. The reception was attended by a wide range of railway representatives from both countries, including Permanent Secretary of Department for Transport Jo Shanmugalingam, to celebrate the railways bicentenary and the deepening of Japan-UK railway cooperation.
During the reception, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki stated that he was delighted that numerous Japanese operators, who had once learned railway technology from the UK, now serve as partners, jointly providing advanced rolling stock, engaging in operations, training engineers together. He also expressed his hope that stakeholders from both countries, who share a passion for railways, will continue to lead the world through Japan-UK railway cooperation.
