Japan-UK Quantum Workshop and Reception
2025/11/6
On 6 November, the Embassy of Japan in the UK hosted the Japan-UK Quantum Workshop and Reception for Industry-Academia-Government Practitioners, co-organised by the Cabinet Office, with the reception sponsored by Q-STAR (Quantum STrategic industry Alliance for Revolution).
This workshop was convened to confirm and strengthen the future direction of Japan-UK collaboration in the field of quantum technology. It brought together representatives from the two governments as well as from industry and research institutions from both Japan and the UK for the first time, building on “the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between Japan and the United Kingdom on Quantum Science and Technology” signed in April this year.
At the workshop, both countries welcomed two newly-signed MoCs* and engaged in substantive discussions on advancing Japan-UK cooperation in the quantum field in areas such as human resource development and standardisation.
The reception that followed was attended by around 90 participants, including quantum-related government representatives, academics from universities and research institutions, as well as representatives from quantum-related industry associations, companies and start-ups.
* Two MoCs were signed - one MOC between AIST’s Global Research Centre for Quantum and AI Convergence Technology Business Development (G-QuAT) and the UK National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC), and the MoC between G-QuAT and the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
