"Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan" exhibition opens at Japan House London

On 2 December, the preview and opening event for the exhibition Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan took place at Japan House London.
This exhibition shines a spotlight on everyday crafts that enrich daily life, featuring over 120 artists and artisans from across Japan. Nearly 2,000 works, made from a diverse range of materials including ceramics, glass, wood, leather, and metal, are on display, inviting visitors to explore the essence and power of Japanese craftsmanship.
Throughout the exhibition period, a variety of events are planned, including talks and demonstrations showcasing the appeal of daily-use crafts, participatory workshops, and gallery tours. Additionally, the shop will offer items created by over 30 exhibiting artists for purchase.
The opening event was attended by the exhibition's curator, Mr Takahiro Nagata, who gave a speech alongside the Embassy's Minister for Public Relations, Mr Shuji Maeda. In his remarks, Minister Maeda stated that the people of Japan and the UK share a profound appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and a drive to innovate while respecting history and tradition. He expressed his hope that this exhibition would serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the bonds between the two countries.
