Ambassador’s Commendation – Dr Adrian Simper

On 16 December, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki awarded the Ambassador’s Commendation to Dr Adrian Simper at the Embassy of Japan.

Dr Simper, as a special overseas committee member of the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation, has been supporting strategic planning and project management for the decommissioning of Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. He has also offered valuable insight as an international advisor and a member of the International Expert Group of the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning. Additionally, as Chief Nuclear Advisor to the UK's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, he has been working to promote understanding of the discharge of ALPS-treated water in various contexts, making a continued contribution to the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Suzuki expressed his deep gratitude for Dr Simper's professional knowledge and dedication, which have greatly contributed to improving safety at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. He also emphasised how Dr Simper's efforts have been important in promoting nuclear policy cooperation between the two countries.

In response, Dr Simper reflected on his work and expressed gratitude for the commendation.
