Ambassador’s Commendation - The British Association for Japanese Studies (BAJS)

On 18 December, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki presented the Ambassador’s Commendation to the British Association for Japanese Studies (BAJS) at the Embassy of Japan.

Since its establishment in 1974, for nearly 50 years, BAJS has played a central role in the development of Japanese Studies in the UK. Through hosting annual conferences, publishing the academic journal "Japan Forum," supporting scholarships for students, and fostering researchers, the association has made significant contributions to the advancement of Japanese studies in the country.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Suzuki referred to the many accomplishments of BAJS and, recognised the current challenges that are being faced by Japanese Studies at UK universities.. He expressed his determination to work together to further promote this area of study, which is a cornerstone for mutual understanding between Japan and the UK.

Professor Coates, President of BAJS, expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the Embassy. Professor Goodman, who has been involved with BAJS for many years, reflected on its activities to date and conveyed his hopes for its further development in the future.
