On 29 January, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Masaki Ikegami attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition “SAMURAI” at the British Museum.
The exhibition offers a multifaceted exploration of the samurai, tracing the background and evolution of the samurai image through a wide range of exhibits, from medieval Japanese armour and works of art to contemporary fashion, video games, and film.
In his speech, Chargé d'affaires Ikegami noted that samurai culture remains rooted in Japanese culture today, expressed his appreciation for the curators’ perspective in planning the exhibition from a non-traditional viewpoint, and said that he hoped many visitors would discover a new image of the samurai beyond familiar stereotypes.
The exhibition opens to the public on 3 February and runs until 4 May.
