Ambassador Suzuki’s visit to Glasgow

From 11 to 13 February, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki visited Glasgow. During his visit he met with Angus Robertson, Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture, and Councilor Dr Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost of Glasgow. He also attended the premiere of the Japan-Scotland co-produced opera "The Great Wave" and watched a football match at Celtic FC - a club which has several Japanese players.
During his visit, Ambassador Suzuki also attended a meeting and exchanged views with representatives from several Japanese companies operating in Glasgow, visited the factory of Terumo Aortic, and the Glasgow Museum Resource Centre to view the "1878 Gifts to Japan" which are items that were presented to Glasgow by the Government of Japan.
On 12 February, Ambassador Suzuki met with Angus Robertson, Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture, and exchanged a wide range of views on further strengthening Japan-Scotland relations in the fields of economy, universities, and culture, as well as on Japan-UK relations and domestic affairs in the UK.

On the same day at the Glasgow City Hall, Ambassador Suzuki met with Councilor Dr Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost of Glasgow, where they exchanged a wide range of views on further strengthening and promoting exchange between Japan and Glasgow in the economic, academic, cultural and sports spheres.
Also on the 12 February, Ambassador Suzuki attended a lunch meeting with representatives of Japanese companies based in Glasgow, where the group exchanged views on the current situation and challenges facing Japanese businesses in the region.

On the 13 February, Ambassador Suzuki visited the factory of Terumo Aortic, and was briefed on the company’s initiatives and achievements, followed by a tour of the artificial vascular graft manufacturing process at the facility.
On 12 February, Ambassador Suzuki attended the world premiere of "The Great Wave", a Japan-Scotland co-produced opera themed on Hokusai. Prior to the performance, he visited Scottish Opera.

On the 12 February, Ambassador Suzuki visited the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, where he viewed the “1878 Gifts from Japan,” a collection of crafts presented to Glasgow by the Government of Japan in 1878.
