The Japan-UK Financial Networking Reception

On 25 March, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki hosted the fourth Japan-UK Financial Networking Reception at the Embassy of Japan. The aim of the event was to encourage exchanges between a wide range of financial professionals in the public and private sectors, against the backdrop of the growing momentum for further cooperation between Japan and the UK in the financial sector.
 
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Suzuki explained the Japanese government's initiatives aimed at promoting Japan as an Asset Management Nation, and the associated corporate governance reforms. He then, he introduced recent examples of Japan-UK cooperation in the financial sector and expressed his hope that these efforts would continue to strengthen the partnership between Japan and the UK in this field.
 
Ms. Sarah Breeden, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, spoke about the strong partnership between the UK and Japan, based on shared values and long-standing trust. She emphasised the decades-long cooperation between the financial authorities of both countries and highlighted the importance of learning from each other’s innovations and different approaches. She also called for further development of the financial sector through new exchanges and dialogue across both the public and private sectors.
 
Around 170 people took part in the reception, with guests including officials from the British Government, the Bank of England and the City of London as well as representatives of financial institutions, professional service providers and industry groups operating in the UK.
