Ambassador and Madame Suzuki’s attendance at Hanami event in Regent’s Park
2026/3/30
On 30 March, Ambassador and Madame Suzuki attended a Hanami gathering in Regent’s Park, organised by the Sakura Cherry Tree Project. This event was held against the backdrop of the park’s role as one of the first sites where sakura cherry trees provided by the project were planted in 2019.
Ambassador Suzuki noted that the project was on track to reach its target of planting 10,000 trees in the UK. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to all those who had contributed to the project so far, and his hope that the sakura cherry trees would contribute to further strengthening friendly relations between Japan and the UK.
Sakura Cherry Tree Project
The Sakura Cherry Tree Project was launched in 2019 and has planted approximately 8,000 trees all over the UK to commemorate 150 years of Japan-UK friendship and the continued cooperation between the two nations. As many as 36 cherry trees were planted in Regent’s Park in November 2019.
