Japanese Government honours Mr Hamish Todd

On 15 April, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki presented Mr Hamish Todd with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays at a ceremony held at the Embassy of Japan.
Mr Todd served in leadership roles at the British Library for nearly 40 years, including Head of the Japanese Section and Head of the East Asian Department. Through his wide-ranging efforts to enhance the research environment for Japanese studies in the UK and to strengthen the network of Japanese studies librarians, he made significant contributions to the promotion of Japanese studies in the UK and Europe.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Suzuki acknowledged Mr Todd’s achievements and expressed his deep respect and gratitude for his outstanding contributions to advancing Japanese studies and promoting greater understanding of Japanese culture in the UK and Europe.
Mr Todd reflected on his activities at the British Library, and expressed his gratitude to those around him.
