Ambassador Suzuki's visit to Norwich

From 13 to 14 May, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki visited the city of Norwich. During his visit, he attended a civic dinner hosted by Norwich City Council and the 15th Anniversary Reception of the Centre for Japanese Studies (CJS) at the University of East Anglia (UEA). He also visited the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures (SISJAC) and the Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab and Virtual Production Studio at Norwich University of the Arts (NUA).

Civic Dinner hosted by Norwich City Council

On 13 May, Ambassador Suzuki attended a civic dinner hosted by Norwich City Council. Expressing his delight at returning to Norwich for the first time in fifteen years, he conveyed his hope that the bonds of trust and friendship built between Japan and the city of Norwich would continue to flourish in the years to come.
 

 

Meeting with Vice-Chancellor Professor David Maguire and Attendance at the CJS 15th Anniversary Reception

On 14 May, Ambassador Suzuki visited the University of East Anglia, where he was welcomed by Vice-Chancellor and President Professor David Maguire. He attended the 15th Anniversary Reception of the Centre for Japanese Studies. In his remarks, Ambassador Suzuki expressed his sincere appreciation for the role the Centre has played in promoting Japanese Studies, and paid tribute to all those who have contributed to its success. He also expressed his hope for the Centre's continued growth and development in the years ahead.
 
      
 
      
 

Visit to the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures (SISJAC)

On 14 May, Ambassador Suzuki visited the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures (SISJAC), where he exchanged views with Director Professor Simon Kaner and staff members on the Institute's activities and research. He also had the opportunity to view items from the Institute's collection. SISJAC and Professor Kaner were awarded the Minister for Foreign Affairs Commendation in 2024 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the promotion of Japanese arts and culture.
 
     
 

Visit to the Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab and Virtual Production Studio at Norwich University of the Arts

On 14 May, Ambassador Suzuki visited Norwich University of the Arts, where he toured the Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab and the Virtual Production Studio. These state-of-the-art facilities, developed in collaboration with Sony, represent a cutting-edge environment for creative and visual arts production. They are used for a wide range of purposes, from student education and research to professional filmmaking and commercial production by external organisations.
