On 15 May, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki and Mr Mitsuyuki Unno, Executive Director of the Nippon Foundation had a meeting with Mr Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This meeting follows the announcement of Japan’s further contribution to the IMO’s technical cooperation programme with the support of the Nippon Foundation on the same day. The three parties exchanged their views on envisaged future technical cooperation initiatives and confirmed their commitment to cooperating towards the realisation of the IMO’s vision of safe, efficient, environmentally sound and sustainable shipping.
Taking this opportunity, Ambassador Suzuki expressed Japan’s continued support for the IMO’s efforts to establish safe maritime corridor in light of the current situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and both sides reaffirmed their resolve to continue their close coordination.
