On 3 July 2026, an official store of the popular Japanese anime Gundam opened in London. THE GUNDAM BASE London is the first establishment of its kind in the UK. Deputy Head of Mission Minister Masaki Ikegami attended the opening ceremony and gave congratulatory remarks.

At THE GUNDAM BASE London visitors can experience the world of Gundam, discovering its timeless appeal through Gunpla (plastic models), figurines, card games, and more. The store is located next to the Bandai Namco Cross Store in Camden, London.

In his remarks, Minister Ikegami noted that the tv show “Mobile Suit Gundam”, which first aired in Japan in 1979, has since become representative of Japan’s pop culture overseas, captivating people across generations and national borders. He also paid tribute to Bandai Namco’s efforts over the last half a century to nurture the world of Gundam and inspire dreams and excitement across the globe. He expressed his hopes that THE GUNDAM BASE London will enable the Gundam fan community to expand across the UK and Europe.
