Manga Jiman Competition 2021

2021/7/14
The Embassy of Japan in the UK's search for the very best of manga-creating talent is BACK for 2021! The annual contest is on now and looking for entries from a broad range of styles, from graphic novelists, storytellers, comic artists and manga-ka; the contest is open to all of those living in the UK. New to the competition and want to find out more? Watch the video below to find out what the contest is all about!

The Manga Jiman Competition is celebrating our 15th year anniversary with an exciting change - those over 14 are now able to enter the Yonkoma category of the contest. Yonkoma manga are a four panel manga set out on a single page, and until now the contest had been open to those aged 11, 12 or 13. The Yonkoma Youth category of the competition will run again this year, and those aged 14 or over will be judged separately in the Yonkoma Manga 14+ category. What's more, you can enter both the Yonkoma 14+ competition AND Manga Jiman if you wish. If you are not familiar with the structure of a Yonkoma, information on how to approach making one can be found here.

Those entering any category of the completion must reference in their manga this year's theme of light. The judges are looking forward to diverse and creative interpretations of the theme.

Winners of the competition will receive fantastic prizes from original manga and animation cells, to cameras and Japanese snacks and gifts! We are planning on hosting an exhibition of the winning entries in the embassy in 2022 if the situation allows for us to do so.
