Renunciation of Japanese Nationality

You must appear in person to submit the Renunciation registration.　(Submission by post can NOT be accepted.)

1.	Renunciation registration forms (Sample)	2 sheets
2.	Original passports for all nationalities held (photocopy is not acceptable)
3.	Japanese translation of non-Japanese passport ( Template)	2 sheets
4.	Proof of address (UK driving license, Bank statement etc.)
5.	Japanese translation of Proof of address (4. above)	2 sheets

The Renunciation form must be written in Japanese.
On the Renunciation form, write your name exactly as it appears on your Family Register. If the name on Family Register is different from the passport or proof of address, you need to submit Declaration form (2 sheets).
If the person renouncing nationality is under 15 years of age, both parents, or a legal guardian must appear in person to submit the Renunciation Registration. If the person renouncing nationality is over 15 years of age, he/she must appear in person to submit the renunciation registration form by himself/herself.
Standard processing time is 2~3 months, and once the renunciation is complete, the Ministry of Justice will issue a certificate of renunciation.
Additional supporting documents may be required on a case-by-case basis.
