Keeping up with Japan on YouTube
2022/6/20
This summer sees a return to a wide range of Japan related events taking place all over the UK, and the Japan UK Events Calendar is the perfect place to search for events near you. Many of these events include an online component which can be enjoyed from home, and the Embassy has also been developing an extensive collection of Japan-related videos on YouTube. Here we take a look at some recent videos that can be enjoyed on demand.
The first in-person concert held at the Embassy following the pandemic showcases the technical precision and wide repertoire of violinist HARADA Maho, who is currently completing her PhD degree at the Royal Academy of Music. This concert, the 12th in the Embassy's Green Park Youth Concert Series, was held on 25 April 2022 and also features pianist Daniel King Smith. The concert is available in full in the video below:
The Embassy of Japan was in conversation with three potters from Bizen, Okayama, Japan, and the Director of the Oxford University Kilns about their involvement in a fascinating wood-fired kilns project in Oxford. The Embassy worked together with the kilns in Autumn 2021 to put on two special firings, followed by an exhibition at the Embassy and Harris Manchester College, Oxford. In part two of the group discussion we take a look at the work made by the potters in Japan, discuss the similarities and changing trends both within Japan and for those interested in wood firing in the UK.
The exhibition of winning entries to the 15th Manga Jiman competition closed on 17 June, and we have exciting announcements about this year's competition coming soon! In the meantime, why not catch up on all of the excitement from the awards ceremonies from previous years.
