The Continuity of the Legacy of World Expos

This symposium brings together prominent international authorities to explore the achievements and legacy of World Expos.
It seeks to identify the goals and the individual challenges of World Expos in the 21st Century.

 

EXPO 2005 Aichi was held in Japan last year as the first world EXPO of the 21st century.  It demonstrated models of new lifestyles, the latest technologies and social innovations.  Over 22 million visitors from all over the world came to EXPO 2005 before its successful close.

 

In cooperation with the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the Science Museum, with the support of the Embassy of Japan U.K., the Japan Association for the EXPO2005, the organizer of EXPO2005 Aichi, present World Expo Symposium - The Continuity of the Legacy of World Expos.

 

This international symposium brings together prominent authorities from around the world.  Speakers will discuss the history and future of world Expos.   Dr. Robert Rydell, a featured speaker, is one of the world’s foremost researchers on international expositions.  His work shows the contribution of international expositions in the development of culture, society and industry.  He will look back on the history of the Expo, and discuss the way forward for international expositions in the 21st century.  Dr. Rydell has published widely on this subject of international fairs, including "All the World's a Fair" and "World of Fairs.”  His latest work is the popular "Buffalo Bill in Bologna."

 

Mr Yutaka Hikosaka, executive creative director for the Japan pavilion at EXPO 2005, will discuss the influence of EXPO2005 on urban planning and architectural design.  Mr. Hikosaka is an Architect and environmental designer, Specializing in urban designs and environmental planning.

 

An exciting roster of speakers in the splendour of the Science Museum promises to be a memorable event.  The symposium is followed by a reception with drinks and delicacies from Japan.
