Since the events of the Second World War the relationship between Japan and Britain has undergone an extraordinary transformation, from bitter conflict to peaceful alliance. Japan and Britain at War and Peace is a multilayered examination of this bilateral relationship with an emphasis on the issue of reconciliation.

Seminar "Recall, Research and Reconciliation - Perspectives on the Experience of War" chaired by Professor Hugo Dobson from 3pm will be followed by drinks reception to mark the publication of "Japan and Britain at War and Peace" Seminar contributors include Professors Ian Nish and Nobuko Kosuge.

The fifth seminar in the 2009 seminar series "Changing World Views:
International Challenges for the UK and Japan" will explore the US-Japan relationship from the post-war period onwards. This relationship has been multi-layered and deep, with the US-Japan Alliance at its core; while Japan can claim its own special relationship with Britain, going back to the signing of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance in 1902 and a host of compatibilities as well as cultural and economic ties.
