This second seminar in the 2009 seminar series, Changing World Views: International Challenges for the UK and Japan looks to North Asia and the territorial and maritime disputes that are the focus of diplomatic efforts in the region and beyond. Guest speakers include Professor Reinhard Drifte, Emeritus Professor of Japanese Politics at Newcastle University

and Dr Heonik Kwon, Reader in Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh. The meeting will be chaired by freelance writer and broadcaster Dr Jim Hoare

Dr Ayako Hotta-Lister has taught and performed in Japan, Britain and Hong Kong. She will introduce the ��koto�� and give a brief history with illustrations. There will be demonstrations on both traditional and contemporary koto composition and the art of singing. Members of the audience will also be invited to play the koto with her.
