Update from JICC and Ambassador Hayashi's Activities

Our latest exhibition at the Embassy "FROM TRADITION TO MODERNITY - Understanding nohgaku from its establishment to contemporary times" opened on 2 September and several events have been held at the Embassy in relation to the exhibtion, including Noh mask making demonstrations and an evening of Noh theatre.

The UK's largest festival of Japan - Japan Matsuri is just around the corner! Taking place on Sunday 6 October at London's Trafalgar Square from 10am-8pm, this free event is fantastic day filled with amazing food, cultural activities, and live performances for all the family to enjoy! Ambassador Hayashi's activities

Earlier this month, two Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) ships visited the UK from 5 to 9 September as part of an Overseas Training Cruise 2024.Training vessel JS Kashima visited London and training vessel JS Shimakaze visited Southampton. On 6 September, a reception was held on board JS Kashima to celebrate the port call and Japan Self-Defence Forces Day with approximately 120 participants from the British Government, Parliament, diplomatic corps and business. Later in the month Ambassador Hayashi visited Nissan Motor Manufacturing in Sunderland where he was briefed on the Nissan’s achievements and preparations to produce electric cars as well as their efforts to reach Net Zero, while observing the assembly process for batteries and vehicles. He also viewed the onsite wind turbines and solar farm. He then visited Scotland where he met with Rt Hon John Swinney MSP, First Minister of Scotland and Annabelle Ewing MSP, Deputy Presiding Officer of Scottish Parliament. He also visited the National Galleries of Scotland.
