A few days later he visited the University of Oxford, first touring the Bodleian Library and then giving a talk at St Antony’s College. Both Ambassador and Madame Hayashi also attended the opening event of the exhibition “Kasimir Malevich Raku Kichizaemon XV” at the Annely Juda Fine Art gallery in London.

The Spirit of Washoku

Chef HAYASHI Daisuke was appointed Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in 2019. Trained at the renowned Kikunoi ryotei restaurant in Kyoto from the age of eighteen as a protégé of the multiple Michelin-starred chef MURATA Yoshihiro, he has brought his modern, progressive approach to gastronomic culture to London, most recently at Roketsu restaurant.

In the following video, Chef Hayashi talks about what makes washoku (Japanese cuisine) so special.
