This month saw the opening of our latest exhibition "Memories and Renewal: Fifteen Years After the Great East Japan Earthquake". For more details check here.

On 16 February, the Embassy hosted the 16th Green Park Youth Concert, showcasing the talents of two young Japanese vocalists, Mr Riku Matsubara (tenor) and Ms Misaki Takahashi (soprano). This concert series has long provided a platform for emerging Japanese musicians, such as those undertaking their studies at renowned conservatoires. Read more here.

Ambassador's activities

On 5 February, Ambassador Suzuki co-hosted the Japanese British Lawyers Reception alongside the British Japanese Law Association (BJLA). The reception was held with the aim of promoting mutual understanding and interaction among Japanese and the UK lawyers. Read more here.

On 11 February, Ambassador Suzuki attended the opening ceremony of Fujifilm's biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The ceremony was also attended by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, Dr Zubir Ahmed MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Technology, Innovation and Safety, and Mr Chris McDonald MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Industry), along with many other distinguished guests. From 11 to 13 February, Ambassador Suzuki visited Glasgow. During his visit he met with Angus Robertson, Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture, and Councilor Dr Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost of Glasgow. He also attended the premiere of the Japan-Scotland co-produced opera "The Great Wave" and watched a football match at Celtic FC - a club which has several Japanese players. Read more here.

From 17 to 18 February, Ambassador Suzuki visited the West Midlands and met with West Midlands Combined Authority Mayor Richard Parker, as well as with Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Aafar Iqbal MBE. He also visited the sites of Japanese businesses operating in the West Midlands and met with Japanese professional footballers currently playing for teams in the region. Read about the visit here.
