Update from JICC

2023/7/21

Earlier this month, the Embassy, together with the Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR London), hosted a pre-departure reception for the 2023 JET Programme participants at SOAS, University of London. This summer, some 220 JET participants will depart for Japan, where they will work as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) in schools or as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) in local governments throughout the country.

Our current exhibition at the Embassy, Aizome - The Craft of Japanese Indigo-dyeing, has been extended for several extra weeks. For the latest updates, check the exhibition webpage here.

Recent events at the Embassy

At the end of last month, the Embassy held the 26th Summer Reunion for Peace and Friendship. The Summer Reunion was first held at the Embassy in 1997 as a reception for former prisoners of war and former civilian internees, as well as for their families, and individuals who had supported reconciliation projects.

Earlier this month, the Embassy of Japan in the UK and the Sake Samurai Association co-hosted the IWC (International Wine Challenge) 2023 Award Winning Sake Tasting event, featuring Japanese sake makers who had won this year’s Sake Awards, with many sake lovers and enthusiasts from the UK as guests.

Lastly, on 18 July, the Embassy hosted the Japan Self-Defense Forces Day Reception commemorating the 69th anniversary of the founding of the Japan Self-Defense Forces at the Embassy of Japan in the UK.
