Embassy events this month included an event celebrating 200 years of the railways, held at Drapers’ Hall in London on 7 October. The event consisted of a seminar attended by alumni of exchange training programmes between railway operators of both countries over the past several decades. Read more here. On 9 October the Embassy hosted a Japan-UK industrial strategy partnership event at Japan House London. During the event, speakers briefed attendees on Japanese government policies and outlined available support measures, with a focus on promoting UK investment in Japan. Read more here.

Ambassador Suzuki's activities
This month, Ambassador Suzuki attended the The Grand Sumo Tournament in London. This was the first time in 34 years that a Grand Sumo event has been held in the UK, following the last tournament in 1991. Read more here. During the tournament, Ambassador also attended an event at Japan House London (JHL), hosted together with the Japan National Tourism Association (JNTO), at which highest-ranking referee the 39th Kimura Shonosuke and Grand Champion Yokozuna Onosato took part in a panel discussion, hosted by well-known sumo commentator Hiro Morita. Later in the October, Ambassador Suzuki visited Liverpool. He met with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Mayor Steve Rotheram and exchanged views with several Japanese companies operating in Liverpool. He also visited Japan-affiliated firms based in the area. Read more about the visit here.
