How to Apply
Visa applicants must visit our office in person along with their passport, visa application forms and all other documents required according to the purpose of stay (See Visa Categories below).
Note 1: Citizens of Russia and NIS are required to submit TWO visa application forms and TWO identical passport-sized photographs.
Note 2: Holders of Convention Travel Documents, emergency passports and temporary passports are advised to contact the Embassy in advance of making an application.
It takes at least 1 week for visa applications to be processed. Different processing times apply to applications with a “Certificate of Eligibility”.
We do not operate an appointment system. Upon arriving at the Consular Section of the Embassy, please take a numbered ticket and wait for your number to be called.
Applications from non-residents in the UK (e.g. visitor visa holders) cannot be accepted.
Visa applicants living in Scotland and the North of England (Cumbria, County Durham, Darlington, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees and Sunderland) should contact the Consulate-General of Japan in Edinburgh

Visa applicants may use a registered visa agent to apply for a visa unless the application is for a Student visa, Working Holiday visa, or Spouse or Child of Japanese National visa.
Applicants who apply for a visa through a registered agent are not required to visit the Embassy in person to apply.
